Rising to Recover & Renew in the Wake of Disaster

Nothing devastates like disaster. When it strikes, either the unforeseen (global pandemic, terror strike, market collapse, and the like) or the well-known risk (earthquake, hurricane, cyber-attack, and the like), the resulting devastation induces a protective numbness at odds with the overwhelming need to return to normal. Many organizations do not recover from the resulting paralysis. Contingency planning can mitigate some, but the loss of life and livelihood on a disastrous scale induces an emotional burden that can only be experienced in the moment.

In this 3-part course, leaders will meet with those who’ve been there, survived, and thrived.

In Part One, leaders will explore the reasons and necessities of pausing to mourn what was with their people and realistically assess what is, before engaging them in what will be.

In Part Two, leaders will use our Loss-Recovery Matrix to swiftly-yet-thoughtfully apply lessons learned from pre-disaster structures, processes, and relationships to reinvent those that worked well, reimagine those that did not, and at each step, reignite the collective will to co-create more adaptive and resilient systems to build back better.

In Part Three, leaders will practice the necessary skills to keep the rebuild-momentum going while pausing periodically to care for individual recovery and resistance.
