Let me put this as bluntly as possible: The Surfer is probably a well put together film (sufficient production value, writing, directing, acting, etc.), but it also among the least enjoyable films I've seen in recent memory.
It is PAINFUL TO WATCH.
Circuitous, repetitive, brutal sun shining down. The Surfer is the cinematic equivalent to sunburn.
It captures psychologically one man's descent into madness, while also succeeding wildly at driving me (and other patrons) berserk in the process.
Ugh.
