Chuckles were chuckled, as they are virtually anytime Leslie Mann appears on screen in a movie. She's always so adorable. Remember 2012's This Is 40? Gah, that was HILARIOUS.
Yeah, Spa Weekend's nothing like that, but, like I said, I chuckled.
Just never chortled.
Chortling would be WAY more. Would require Melissa McCarthy or some such to adorn the screen as well.
I will say that Adam Demos ("Kai") somehow does the impossible: He appears as the resort yoga instructor, but rather than distract like some random beefcake, he actually seems to GROUND the film and bring the tiniest of moments a pleasantly surprising and welcomed sense of gravitas and depth to an otherwise frivolous weekend comedy.
By the end, yes, Spa Weekend becomes a bit of a message movie, and I liked that.
It's not COMPLETELY air. Two or three high-notes have weight.
